Bilirakis Secures Millions for Local Veterans
Congressman Gus Bilirakis, Vice-Chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, is pleased to announce that his advocacy on behalf of local Veterans has resulted in an allocation of over $2.7 million in federal funds for improvements at Baldomero Lopez State Veterans' Nursing Home in Land O’ Lakes. Specifically, these funds will be used to renovate the facility’s dining room, dayrooms, nursing units and restrooms. This is part of $685 million in funding provided through the recent budget bill for the VA State Veterans Home Construction Grant Program. This substantial increase to the program, which has been operating for many years with a backlog of applications for construction projects, will undoubtedly benefit aging and disabled Veterans throughout the country.
“I’ve visited this facility many times over the years, and have seen first-hand how desperately these upgrades are needed,” said Bilirakis. “Our Veterans must be treated with dignity at all times. They deserve the very best facilities in which to receive the highest possible care. I will continue to fight on behalf of all Veterans, as we work to honor the sacrifices and service they have given to our country,” he added.
