Bilirakis Blog: Gus Welcomes Return of Former Staffer from Democracy Work in Egypt
One of the 16 Americans charged in Egypt for promoting democracy and religious freedom is John Tomaszewski, a former staff member for Congressman Bilirakis.
Tomaszewski was in Egypt when a travel ban came into force and was one of six Americans who sought refuge at the American embassy. After the travel ban was released, he recently returned to Washington.
During the ban, Gus made frequent contact with embassy officials to help negotiate the return of these workers to the United States. Gus has long been an advocate for religious freedom and for spreading democracy around the world, and appreciates the vital role these NGO workers play in countries such as Egypt. He will continue to work on their behalf to protect their mission.
