On Tuesday, Gus visited the American Red Cross Digital Operations Center, which utilizes social media to monitor affected areas during and after an emergency in order to aid disaster relief.

"Americans are increasingly using social media and expect emergency responders to monitor social media sites. This technology will enhance response operations that provide care and comfort to so many after disaster strikes," said Gus, who is Chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications.

The Red Cross uses the information gathered from social media to better anticipate an area's needs and to provide relief services and supplies more quickly.
