October Through The Lens
October was filled with many exciting events, hearings, markups, votes, and visits with so many constituents, families, and advocates. Great things are happening in Florida’s 12th district and I look forward to continuing my efforts to help our families, Veterans, and communities. Here are some highlights from October:
It was a pleasure to meet Dax, along with many other Hero Dog Award winners, during a briefing on Capitol Hill. As a K-9 unit for the Ashland Police Department, Dax saved the life of his partner, Officer Alberini, before the bad guy could get a shotgun round off. Dogs like Dax save lives every day. I’m proud to be a co-founder of the Humane Bond Caucus to celebrate the many ways animals like Dax enrich our lives.
I had a great time checking out the new Oldsmar BMX facility with my son. What an exciting new spot for our area, it is definitely worth a visit!
The Tarpon Springs jitney has been restored! Thanks to the Tarpon Springs Historical Society for sharing this experience with the community. My son and I enjoyed our ride in the jitney and our look back at some of the history of Tarpon Springs.
October was Down syndrome awareness month. Earlier this year, I was honored to meet Madison, a Down syndrome patient who has had four major open-heart surgeries all before her third birthday. Madison is a true inspiration - she embodies the hopeful, joyful spirit that has motivated #Cures2015. This month, we had the chance to spread awareness and advocacy for her and so many other patients and families affected by Down syndrome.
PFC Mike Risola from Tarpon Springs was recently selected to serve at the Marine Barracks here in Washington, D.C. Thanks for your service, Mike, and thanks for stopping by - it was a pleasure!
I had the privilege of welcoming some of our nation’s heroes to D.C. this month. It was great meeting with Veterans with the West Central Florida Honor Flight. I hope everyone enjoyed their visit to our nation’s capital!
