This month was an exciting and busy month. It was a privilege to be in the presence of His Holiness Pope Francis, to meet with some constituents, and to continue my efforts to protect our nation's Veterans, taxpayers, and families. Here are some highlights from September:

During Pope Francis's visit to D.C. a few Floridians joined me for a post-papal gathering. I am so happy to have shared this experience with some wonderful constituents including local faith leaders, Father Stephen Brown and Father Kyle Smith.

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and I filmed a congratulatory video for the American Humane Association's Hero Dog Awards. Henry and I are co-founders of the Congressional Humane Bond Caucus that celebrates the many ways animals enrich our lives. These military dogs are truly special. Watch the Hero Dog Awards on the Hallmark Channel on October 30 at 8PM ET.

I had the privilege to speak with the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Like these men and women, I remain dedicated to improving public health care in our nation. Bills such as #Cures2015 will significantly help in efforts to find cures & treatments for Cancer.

I participated in the USO care package service project on Capitol Hill to express gratitude to our nation's service members. This event will produce 2,000 USO Care Packages for our troops. I have so much admiration for our military, their families, and the sacrifices they make for our country. It was an honor to be a part of this project to provide some support for our heroes.

I have the privilege of teaching a University of South Florida weekly class at the Honors College. I'm proud to be a Bulls fan and show my support whenever I can.
