Ahead of National March for Life, Bilirakis Earns A+ for Pro-Life Record
Washington, DC – Earlier today, the 2023 Susan B. Anothony Pro-Life America National Pro-Life Scorecard was released. It reflects each Member’s support on a variety of pro-life issues. U.S. Congressman Gus Bilirakis once again earned a perfect A+ score.
“As millions of Americans plan to march upon our nation’s Capitol later this week in support of the sanctity of life, I strongly support their efforts in both words and action,” said Congressman Gus Bilirakis. “Tragically, more than 60 million unborn children have been aborted since Roe v. Wade was enacted more than 50 years ago. The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. JacksonWomen’s Health Organization is a transformational victory and sets a new precedent for unborn babies’ right to life. The question of abortion is now up to each individual state. Despite this monumental ruling, the work is never over to protect the lives of the unborn. I remain unapologetically pro-life, and this is reflected in my voting record. My colleagues and I are working to ensure government defends Americans’ constitutional rights—and that includes our most fundamental right to LIFE. My constituents can be assured that I will keep fighting to be a voice for the most vulnerable among us and protect the lives of unborn babies and their mothers.”
Highlights of Bilirakis’s Pro-life Record in 2023 include support of the following measures:
- Born Alive Abortion Protection Act (H.R. 26) which would establish affirmative federal protections for babies who are born alive after an attempted abortion. The Federal Government has a duty to protect these vulnerable born-alive infants and to stand united against infanticide;
- National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 (H.R. 2670) amendment which would prohibit the Secretary of Defense from paying for or reimbursing expenses relating to abortion services;
- The Heartbeat Protection Act (H.R. 175) which criminalizes the act of knowingly performing an abortion on an unborn baby with a detectable heartbeat;
- The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (H.R. 7) which prohibits the use of federal funds for abortions or for health coverage that includes abortions; and
- The Concurrent Resolution Condemning Attacks on Pro-Life Facilities (H. Con. Res. 3) which condemns recent attacks on prolife facilities and pregnancy centers.
Later this week, Bilirakis plans to vote in favor of two measures that would better protect unborn babies and their mothers which will be on the House Floor. These include:
- The Pregnant Students’ Rights Act (HR 6914) requires colleges and universities to disseminate information to prospective and enrolled students on the rights and resources, including protections and accommodations, available for pregnant students while enrolled at the institution. Examples include: modified class schedules, excused absences, and more. It also requires universities to inform students how to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education if there is a violation of Title XI protections for pregnant students.
- The Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act (HR 6918) blocks a proposed Biden Administration rule that could prohibit states from giving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds to pregnancy resource centers which support the life of both the mother and unborn child.
