Big Win In the Fight Against Opioid Addiction
Last week, the President signed into law the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act to bring about meaningful reforms in the mental health care system. This legislation is the product of a bipartisan House and Senate conference committee, of which Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) was a member, and passed the House with a vote of 407-5 and the Senate 92-2.
Congressman Bilirakis released the following statement:
“I am grateful to all those who helped make this possible. Together, with local law enforcement, patients, families, stakeholders, and experts from many backgrounds, we will now help the millions who suffer with drug addiction. I am especially proud this bill includes my PROMISE and COVER Acts to help our Veterans who are struggling. Our heroes deserve safe, quality care, and these bills will bring about necessary reforms to help them.”
