Bilirakis Addresses Opioid Abuse in FL12 and Across the Nation
The Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Health today advanced legislation to further address the opioid abuse epidemic and keep families and communities safe.
“There have been more deaths related to drug abuse than car accidents in our country,” said Congressman Bilirakis. “These bills are critical to our work in addressing this epidemic. I am proud we advanced this legislation today. We must continue working with health care professionals, experts, and patients to build on this legislative package and prevent further suffering.”

To further address the prescription opioid and heroin epidemic specifically in FL12, Congressman Bilirakis announced that Michael Botticelli, Director of National Drug Control Policy, will visit local communities.
Director Botticelli will join Congressman Bilirakis to tour FL12 facilities and meet with law enforcement, key health care providers, and experts to discuss ways to address this widespread problem in the community.
“This issue is especially important in my district,” said Bilirakis. “That is why, during a hearing last year, I asked the Director to visit our communities in FL12 with me. I’ve witnessed the plight drug abuse has on our families, communities, and our economy, and I hope to share the urgency of this epidemic here in Florida with the Director.”
