Bilirakis Appointed to Conference Committee on Opioid Epidemic

May 17, 2016

Today, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) appointed 21 House Republican lawmakers to serve on a bipartisan conference committee charged with producing final legislation to fight the nation's opioid epidemic. Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) has been appointed to represent the House on the conference committee on issues within the jurisdiction of the Veterans Affairs Committee.

Congressman Bilirakis released the following statement:

"Drug abuse and addiction in our nation is a top concern. This is especially prominent in our Veteran population. Our nation's heroes need our help. This is why I introduced my PROMISE Act, which passed the House last week. My bill will help improve VA opioid safety, and provide Veterans with safe, personalized care to deal with their physical and invisible wounds. I am honored to serve on this committee and I look forward to helping our heroes, and all those in our nation struggling with opioid abuse and addiction."
