Bilirakis: CMS' Withdrawal of Rules a Victory for Seniors
"Competition in Medicare Part D among insurers keeps prices down and quality up. There are over 1,100 plans offered nationwide. Seniors can choose the plans that provide the medicines they need at the best value," Bilirakis said. "Part D works. Prescription drug premiums under Part D have increased one dollar a year the last 5 years – far less than inflation. Medicare Part D is spending 45% less than original projections. Over ninety percent of seniors are satisfied with Part D. CMS's proposed rules would have subverted the intent and letter of the law passed by Congress by needlessly inserting themselves into the Medicare Part D program. I am pleased the Obama Administration decided to withdraw its misguided rules," continued Bilirakis.
Representative Biliakis has long been a supporter of Medicare Part D. Part D embraces free market principles that keep costs low and quality of care high. Medicare Part D is embraced by seniors. Seniors are given typically given dozens of prescription drug plan choices, and enrollment in Part D has grown from 11.6 million in 2005 to 29.9 million in 2012.
