Bilirakis Commends Senate Work to Address Prescription Drug Abuse
Representative Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) released the following statement following Senate passage of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act to address prescription drug abuse:
“This bipartisan bill will help combat opioid and prescription drug abuse in our nation. I am proud to have worked on this important issue for many years. In 2013, I first introduced the Medicare Part D Patient Safety and Drug Abuse Prevention Act which would create a drug management program – also known as a lock-in program. With the passage of this Senate bill, which includes language based on my lock-in provision for Medicare, we have the opportunity to address abuse within Medicare.”
“I will continue fighting against drug abuse, and ensure those who are prescribed medications have access to them. We must keep our communities safe and healthy.”
Last year, Congressman Bilirakis’s lock-in provision was passed by the House as part of the 21st Century Cures Act. Congressman Bilirakis will continue his work addressing opioid and prescription drug abuse for patients, families, Veterans, and communities across the nation.
