Bilirakis: Congress Must Follow the Law - No Budget, No Pay

January 23, 2013

?Formulating a budget is the basis of every financial plan, and this country needs a clear strategy to get its fiscal house in order. Now, more than ever, families and businesses are making the difficult decisions to get their own finances in check, and Washington must do the same. We cannot afford to ignore the out-of-control spending, which puts our nation?s credit rating and economic standing at risk. If we are going to truly address this country?s economic challenges and provide opportunity for Americans, we must create economic stability and certainty. Congress must follow the law and pass a budget, something the Senate has failed to do for four years.?

Under H.R. 325, Members of Congress? pay would be held in escrow and payable on the last day of the 113th Congress, avoiding any complications with the 27th Amendment.
