Bilirakis Continues Work to Address VHA Flaws
Today, the Veterans' Affairs Committee held an oversight hearing on the Independent Assessment of the Health Care Delivery Systems and Management Processes of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The Independent Assessment evaluates every aspect of the Veterans' Health Administration. Recent assessments found many systemic shortfalls and significant flaws across VHA.
The report "found that VHA's health care facilities deliver strikingly different patient experiences, apply inconsistent business processes, and differ widely on key measures of performance and efficiency. The assessments also provided evidence that the organization is plagued by many problems: growing bureaucracy, leadership and staffing challenges, and an unsustainable trajectory of capital costs."
"These findings highlight the need for significant improvements in the VA healthcare system," said Bilirakis. "It is crucial we identify these problems within the VA and come up with lasting solutions."
Members and witnesses discussed these issues and the necessary steps to address the many problems.
Congressman Bilirakis questioned the panel on their work to improve the VHA and their specific objectives to continue their efforts.
"Our Veterans have sacrificed so much for this country and we must constantly work to ensure that the VA healthcare system provides them with the highest quality care they have earned and deserve," added Bilirakis. "I look forward to continuing our work on this important issue."
