Bilirakis Continues Work to Help Seniors

October 22, 2015

Yesterday, the Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Health held a hearing to review opportunities to improve Medicare for our nation's seniors.

Members and witnesses reviewed ways to strengthen the Medicare Part D Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Program for both patients, pharmacists, and for the Part D plans. MTM was created to encourage patient adherence to prescriptions, however, such adherence to prescriptions is not as strong as possible. CMS recently announced plans for a new demonstration program aimed at strengthening MTM and this hearing provided the opportunity to review this possible plan.

"Our nation's seniors deserve quality care," said Congressman Gus Bilirakis. "This committee has worked to ensure they get the care they need and I am pleased we are continuing our efforts today with the help of important stakeholders."

Witnesses shared their thoughts on the CMS program and ways the committee can help improve MTM and Medicare as a whole.

"Our efforts to strengthen Medicare will continue," added Bilirakis. "This issue is very important, not only in my district, but in communities across the country."
