Bilirakis Discusses Mental Health Issues and Veterans
"Mental health treatment is incredibly important. We must make sure that the federal efforts devoted to mental illness are effectively directed, particularly among our nation's veterans. Time Magazine wrote back in 2012 that ‘more U.S. military personnel have died by suicide since the war in Afghanistan began than have died fighting there.' These deaths diminish us as a whole, and many are linked to traumatic brain injuries, PTSD, or other mental health issues. It leaves spouses, children, parents, and siblings behind, all of whom must deal with this loss and their own grief. It is vital that we address mental health issues facing Americans in all walks of life, including our nation's veterans."
