Bilirakis Discusses New Technology for Veterans

Today, the House Veterans' Affairs Committee's Subcommittee on Health held a roundtable to discuss ways to enhance the VA's use of emerging technologies to improve Veteran function, mobility, and care. Members and stakeholders discussed new technology designed to better support Veterans, how the VA and legislation impacts these innovative companies, and ways to remove any barriers in the process for developing new technologies.

"This roundtable helped us better understand the many ways Veterans can take advantage of recent advances in technology," said Congressman Bilirakis. "I am grateful for all of our participants, especially GetWell Network from my home district. Your input today will help shape our policies in the future to ensure we encourage innovation and help boost our economy all while improving Veteran care."

Companies discussed their innovative technologies that help Veterans. Health and Performance International showcased their "Orrb" and the treatment it provides for Veterans. This innovative tool helps Veterans manage their post-traumatic stress and provides Veteran-centered, personalized care through an intuitive immersive environment. Esko Bionics shared their suit technology that helps provide rehabilitation for spinal cord injuries. The Ekso Bionics GT Robotic Exoskeleton works to personalize treatment and rehabilitation to help disabled Veterans stand and walk. These technological advancements and many others discussed at the roundtable will help provide personalized care for Veterans, boost our economy, and even save money in the long run.

"This is an exciting time in medicine and rehabilitation technology," added Bilirakis. "We must work to bring our laws up to speed with these advances. I look forward to continuing our efforts to help innovative companies provide tools to help our Veterans receive the care they deserve."
