BILIRAKIS, DUNN, RUBIO, SCOTT, AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA DELEGATION URGE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION TO END HEAVY-HANDED ALLOCATION SYSTEM FOR LIFE-SAVING COVID-19 TREATMENTS

January 5, 2022

Washington, D.C. — Earlier today, Representatives Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) and Neal Dunn (R-FL) teamed with Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rick Scott (R-FL), along with other Republican members of the Florida congressional delegation to urge U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra to reverse its burdensome allocation for monoclonal antibody drugs (mAbs) and return to a state-based model in which states and local healthcare providers can directly order mAbs from drug manufacturers.

"I have received calls from many constituents who are desperately trying to find monoclonal antibody treatment, with no luck. The Governor has announced that there is a shortage of supply because the Biden Administration has been keeping the state of Florida from ordering directly from the manufacturer," said Congressman Bilirakis. "President Biden has recently been forced to admit that pandemic response is best handled at the state level, and yet this contradictory policy is interfering with our state's ability to ensure appropriate access to treatment that Floridians want. My colleagues and I will continue to implore the Biden Administration to do the right thing and stop rationing this treatment away from Floridians."
