Bilirakis Encourages Passage of NDAA

October 20, 2015

Today, Speaker Boehner signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This legislation, which will authorize necessary funds for the Department of Defense to provide our military with the tools they need to defend our country, now heads to the President's desk.

"I'm glad to see the strong bipartisan and bicameral support for this legislation," said Congressman Gus Bilirakis. "As we face an unprecedented amount of national security threats, this bill is crucial to ensure our military is prepared and we, as Americans, are safe."

The President has threatened to veto this crucial legislation. Since it was first passed over 50 years ago, the NDAA has only been vetoed four times. Each time, a compromise was reached to get the legislation passed.

"The President has asked that Congress work together on issues important to our nation and we have done just that," added Bilirakis. "Now it is his turn to work with Congress to help our nation's heroes. I hope that we can get this done for our brave men and women in uniform and provide the same unwavering dedication to our troops that they have displayed in protecting our democracy."
