Bilirakis Expresses Outrage with OIG Report on the President's Health Care Law
"OIG has reported 2.6 million unresolved inconsistencies in the applications of individuals who signed up for the President's health care law. This could mean errors in citizenship, income, employment information, or a host of other issues," Bilirakis said. "This is yet another piece of evidence that the ACA was not ready for prime time. Improper subsidy amounts funded by taxpayers may have gone to people that were ineligible. I previously expressed my reservations about the "back end" of HealthCare.gov, which is responsible for processing this kind of information. It's obvious my misgivings were warranted."
"I introduced legislation nearly a year ago that would have prevented this. However, the level of irresponsibility when it comes to the implementation of the President's health care law by this Administration continues. They went live with HealthCare.gov knowing full well how far it was from completion – chock full of errors. The Administration's malfeasance toward spending taxpayers' hard earned money is outrageous. These OIG reports detail the latest example of one of the many serious problems in the President's health care law."
On August 1, 2013 Congressman Bilirakis introduced H.R. 2927, the No Taxation Without Verification Act, which would have prevented any new tax or fee included in the ACA from being imposed until the Secretary of Health and Human Services could verify that the reporting requirements relating to employer status, employee income levels, and health care status could be made accurately and without fraud. The two OIG reports can be read here and here.
