August 19, 2022

New Port Richey, Florida: Congressman Gus Bilirakis recently met with Ms. Georgie Alfano, founder of Female Veterans Unite, a local organization dedicated to meeting the needs of female Veterans throughout the Tampa Bay area. Topics of the discussion included: Veteran Suicide rates among women, gaps in services for female Veterans, and the steps that can be taken to make women Veterans feel more comfortable obtaining care through the VA. After the meeting, Bilirakis immediately reached out to James A. Haley Veterans Hospital to share the concerns and suggestions that were presented.

"I greatly appreciate Georgie bringing these matters to my attention," said Congressman Bilirakis. "I will follow-up with the VA to ensure these issues are addressed in a timely manner, and I look forward to continuing to work with Female Veterans Unite to ensure all Veterans receive the care and benefits they deserve.

Bilirakis has a long history of championing improved care for female Veterans. His bipartisan Protecting Moms Who Served Act was recently signed into law. It seeks to eliminate maternal mortality, morbidity, and disparities among Veterans.   "By making critical investments in the maternal healthcare all female Veterans receive, we can help save lives and improve health outcomes for moms and babies,"said RepresentativeBilirakis upon the bill's enactment."Our nation's heroes deserve the best possible care, and our legislation gets us one step closer to achieving that goal."
