Bilirakis: Obamacare Increases Premiums for Small Businesses

February 25, 2014

"The report is clear. The CMS Actuary estimates 65 percent of small businesses will be forced to increase their premiums as a direct result of Obamacare. That is roughly 11 million people. Small businesses are a cornerstone of economic growth in this country. To saddle them with increased health care costs will reduce their capacity to hire or expand," said Bilirakis. "The Administration talks about creating jobs and lowering health care costs, but their policies do the exact opposite. This announcement comes after millions of hardworking Americans in the individual market had their plans cancelled because of Obamacare. Contrary to the promises of President Obama, you will not be able to keep your health care or your doctor, and sadly, your premiums will be anything but affordable."

According to the Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy, 99.7% of employers in the United States are small businesses, and they represent 64% of all new private-sector jobs. The report, issued over two years after the statutory deadline, demonstrates how Obamacare will hurt small businesses across the country.
