Bilirakis Offers Assistance Local Farmers Affected by Freezing Temperature

January 4, 2008

"The local farmers who were affected by these freezing temperatures need to know that help my office is here to help them with any assistance they need. We're here to help," said Congressman Bilirakis. "While most were lucky, many farmers were not."

Parkesdale Farms was one of several local farmers who were faced with the challenge of preventing their crops from spoiling on Wednesday night after temperatures dipped below freezing. After their water pump failed, about 22 acres of crops were damaged at a loss of an estimated $750,000. Despite having crop insurance, famers at Parkesdale say it may take up to six weeks to know the full extent of the loss.
