Bilirakis Opposes Legislation to Raise Debt Limit

"Excessive government spending is one of the most serious and pressing concerns our nation faces. Washington's culture of spending must end. Spending money we do not have and thereby placing this financial burden on the backs of our children and grandchildren is irresponsible and wrong. High levels of government spending have debilitated economies around the globe, and will continue to negatively impact the American economy until we taken definitive action. Every day, my constituents have to make difficult decisions and prioritize spending for their families. If hardworking Floridians and Americans across the country are forced to make such decisions, it seems only right their government does as well."

On February 11, S. 540 passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 221 to 201. This legislation increases the debt limit through March 15, 2015.
