Bilirakis Proudly Supports Colleyville and Jewish Community, Condemns Rise in Anti-Semitism

January 20, 2022

Washington, DC: Today, Congressman Gus Bilirakis and a group of his colleagues co-sponsored a House Resolution condemning the heinous terrorist attack on Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, on January 15, 2022. This resolution acknowledges the local, state, and federal law enforcement officers who responded swiftly to Saturday's incident, and makes it clear that the United States Congress stands behind both the city of Colleyville and the entire Jewish community. It also expressly and unconditionally calls the attack what it is – a terrorist attack against the Jewish people. The legislation also condemns the recent rise in Anti-Semitism that has occurred in the United States and around the globe. Bilirakis, who serves as the Co-Chairman of the International Religious Freedom Congressional Caucus has long been a champion for identifying and speaking out against Anti-Semitic action and language.

"Throughout history, humanity has encountered many faces of evil. Our darkest moments as a human race have come during times when those who knew better stood silently, making excuses for passivity and allowing injustice and persecution to reign. Our brightest moments as an international community have been those in which we present a united front in our efforts to identify and eradicate its presence," said Congressman Bilirakis. "We must all take responsibility for being a part of that effort, as there is simply no place for hatred and bigotry in our society. I will continue to speak out against all Anti-Semitic rhetoric and behavior in hopes that we can prevent future acts of terrorism rooted in racism."
