Bilirakis Requests CDC Zika Funding Increase
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced more than $16 million in new Zika funding for 40 states and territories. Florida will receive $720,000 to address the virus statewide. Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) released the following statement:
"I am grateful our state will now receive more help to fight the Zika virus. Florida continues to see an increase in cases and we must do all we can to address this potential epidemic, and keep our communities and families safe. This money will be used to help detect microcephaly quickly, study the affects and other outcomes caused by Zika, and ensure patients and families are referred to the appropriate health care facilities. I will continue my efforts to encourage continued assistance and funding, and work to keep Florida safe and healthy."
Congressman Bilirakis has been diligently working with state and local officials, Energy and Commerce Committee colleagues, and other members of Congress to address the Zika virus. This week, Congressman Bilirakis, along with members of the Florida delegation, sent a letter to the CDC requesting more funding to help combat the virus and stay ahead of a potential explosive outbreak.
