Bilirakis Speaks Out on the Need to Hold the Biden Administration Accountable for its Failed Border Policies that Have Created a Crisis
Earlier today, Congressman Gus Bilirakis spoke to WFLA's Jack Harris about the urgent crisis occurring along the southern border resulting from President Biden's failed open border policies. More than 3 million illegal migrants have entered our country since President Biden took office. Since last October, 66 suspected terrorists were among those caught illegally entering our country. During this same time period, Border Patrol Agents also report over 500,000 known "get-aways." Bilirakis questions how many more terrorists may have been within that group of people who successfully evaded law enforcement and entered our country.
Bilirakis also highlighted the deadly impact that the huge spike in fentanyl being trafficked through the border under President Biden's policies is having on communities throughout the country. More than 107,000 Americans died of a drug overdose during the past year, with Florida leading the nation in deaths. Fentanyl overdose is now the number one cause of death in the nation for individuals ages 18 to 45. Fentanyl is highly addictive and inexpensive to produce, leading criminal drug networks to increasingly mix it with other illicit drugs—in powder and pill form—in an effort to drive addiction and attract repeat buyers. In 2021 alone, DEA seized enough fentanyl to provide a lethal dose to every American, 7 times over. Law enforcement officials confirm that the drugs found on the streets throughout the country are laced with fentanyl and other synthetic opioids that have been manufactured in China and smuggled across our southern border. Bilirakis is concerned that the situation is only going to worsen now that President Biden has repealed the Remain in Mexico policy.
"Enough is enough," said Bilirakis. "We need to secure the border to save lives and protect our national security!
