Bilirakis Statement on President's FY 2017 Budget Proposal

February 9, 2016

Representative Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) released the following statement following President Obama's budget proposal for FY 2017:

"Maintaining his status quo, the President has proposed a budget that leads us to higher taxes and too much spending. The proposal would increase spending by $2.5 trillion and raise taxes by $3.4 trillion over the next decade. Under his budget, the national debt will be more than double what it was when the President took office.

The President's plan would increase the burden borne by the American people. His proposed $10 tax on oil would raise gas prices by an average of 24 cents per gallon - my constituents cannot afford this unnecessary increase in energy costs.

I will continue my efforts to protect American consumers and families. Although the President's priorities do not include a balanced budget or fiscally conservative measures that help my constituents, such as tax cuts that will create a business environment in which jobs can be created, I will continue my work to grow our economy and cut wasteful spending. We need to get back to a responsible, confident America."
