Bilirakis Statement on President's Health Care Speech

October 20, 2016

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s remarks defending his health care law.

“The President’s description of Obamacare today stands in stark contrast to the Obamacare I hear about from my constituents. Premiums have gone up over 19% in Florida, all while insurers are fleeing the market, leaving less and less choices for consumers in our state and across the country. As President Bill Clinton recently commented, the health care law is truly 'the craziest thing in the world.'

"The Administration's approach now is to ignore the problems with Obamacare and declare victory--but that is not reality. Our health care system must become consumer-driven and patient-focused in order to bring down costs for all and make sure Americans are receiving the best care possible.”

House Republicans have put forward a plan, called “A Better Way”, to lower costs, improve the quality of care, and restore freedom and flexibility to the nation’s health care system.
