Bilirakis Statement on Selection of Dr. David Shulkin for VA Secretary
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) released the following statement after the announcement from President-Elect Donald Trump selecting Dr. David Shulkin for Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“I greatly look forward to working with Dr. Shulkin and President-Elect Trump to turnaround the culture of mediocrity that persists at the VA,” said Bilirakis. “For too long, our nation’s Veterans have dealt with lengthy wait times, an unaccountable bureaucracy, and a severe lack of quality mental health services. I’m confident that under the leadership and vision of our new administration, Veterans will start receiving the level of care they have earned and deserve.”
Bilirakis serves on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, where he continues to prioritize improving mental health care for Veterans, and increasing accountability and transparency at the VA. Two of his bills to promote better access to mental health services—the COVER Act and the PROMISE Act—were signed into law last year, and he worked closely with the committee on the VA Accountability First and Appeals Modernization Act.
