Bilirakis Supports Efforts to Extend Sanctions on Iran
Today, U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) supported legislation in the U.S. House to extend sanctions on Iran’s energy industry and illicit weapons programs. The Iran Sanctions Extension Act (H.R. 6297) passed the House by a vote of 419-1.
“Today, we passed this very important bill to the national security of the United States and our allies in the Middle East,” said Bilirakis. “We need to continue—and we will under this bill—to impose sanctions against Iran. These sanctions work, and they’re the best tool to fight the Iranian regime. I’m very pleased to support this bipartisan bill for our national security.”
The sanctions included in this legislation are not part of the President’s nuclear deal with Iran, and they would expire at the end of the year if Congress does not take action. The Iran Sanctions Extension Act now heads to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
