Bilirakis Supports Keystone Pipeline; Creating Jobs and Putting U.S. on Path to Energy Independence

April 17, 2013

"Now, more than ever, it is important that we create a long-term energy plan, which addresses rising energy costs that drain family budgets," said Congressman Bilirakis. "Today, we took a significant step toward ensuring our energy independence by passing the Northern Route Approval Act, which will not only create much-needed jobs, but also allow us to reduce our reliance on less-than-friendly countries, like Venezuela, for our oil. I look forward to working with my colleagues to move this important piece of legislation out of the House of Representatives and into the Senate."

The project was originally proposed in 2008, but the President has declined to approve it, even though the Department of State has concluded the pipeline will pose minimal threat to the environment.
