Bilirakis Warns Against Senior Scare Tactics Ahead of President Biden’s Visit to Tampa, Renews Pledge to Protect Medicare and Social Security

U.S. Congressman Gus Bilirakis issued the following statement in advance of President Biden’s scheduled visit to Tampa, Florida today:

“President Biden will be in Tampa Bay today continuing to peddle his senior scare tactics.  No amount of spin can deflect from the harsh truth. Americans are suffering as a result of two years of one-party Democrat rule in Washington.  One of the most painful impacts of their failed leadership has been increasing our 10-year spending trajectory by $10 trillion, which has caused record levels of inflation.  While we must restore fiscal accountability, doing so cannot come on the backs of our seniors.  Despite the false claims made by the President, it is actually Democrats’ reckless spending that could expedite the insolvency of Medicare and Social Security.  I have always stood up for seniors and fought against proposed cuts to these critical programs, and I will continue to do so. I’ve sponsored legislation to create a non-partisan commission to propose ways to strengthen the programs and ensure their long-term solvency.  Removing politics from the equation worked well in the early 80s under President Reagan and Tip O’ Neill, and I believe it can be beneficial again.   So, I remind my constituents that whatever politically motivated scare tactics the President uses in Tampa today in an attempt to distort reality, you can have confidence that I will always continue to protect seniors as my colleagues and I work to ensure the long-term solvency of these critical programs,” said Representative Gus Bilirakis.
