Bilirakis Will Receive Prestigious Silver Helmet Award

March 5, 2014

"I am humbled to be presented with this award," said Bilirakis. "As Vice-Chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, I have an incredible opportunity to assist veterans. I am deeply committed to serving our heroes, to ensure they receive the benefits they deserve. Equally important are the young men and women returning home from recent conflicts. I am proud to have sponsored and supported legislation that will assist these brave service members with their reintegration to civilian life through retraining or educational opportunities."

"This award, however, is not about me," continued Bilirakis. "It honors my work for veterans, but it is the veterans who should be honored. These men and women risk life and limb for our freedoms. Though the theatres of war have changed over time, the unwavering commitment of our men and women of the Armed Forces remained consistent. Our brave service-members have always stood proud and ready to protect America, its citizens, and the liberties we enjoy on a daily basis. The sacrifice that veterans and their families make can never be fully described. I am truly honored to be able to serve them."

The Silver Helmet Award is given to individuals who demonstrate "excellence and outstanding accomplishment in the fields of Americanism, defense, rehabilitation, congressional and civil service." Bilirakis has served on the House Veterans Affairs Committee throughout his entire tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives.
