Bilirakis Works to Protect Consumers, Hold FCC Accountable

June 14, 2016

The Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Communications and Technology today reviewed the FCC's proposed privacy rules for broadband Internet service providers (ISPs).

"I have been working with my colleagues to ensure our constituents, both consumers and businesses, in every district are protected from harmful government overreach," said Congressman Bilirakis. "We're working towards a more transparent and accountable FCC. The proposed rule causes confusion and does not properly protect consumers. Today, we discussed this issue with key stakeholders to better understand how to help – I appreciate their input and look forward to working together to help consumers and encourage innovation and competition in the communications world."

Members heard from representatives from the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, 21st Century Privacy Coalition, and Georgetown University Law Center regarding the FCC's proposed rule.
