Energy and Commerce Advances FTC REPORTS Act

July 13, 2016

The Energy and Commerce Committee today advanced legislation to help encourage innovation and modernize our health care system, communications world, and the Federal Trade Commission for the 21st Century.

The Committee approved eight bipartisan solutions, including legislation Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) worked on:

  • H.R. 5510, the FTC Process and Transparency Reform Act (including H.R. 5098, the FTC Robust Elderly Protections and Organizational Requirements to Track Scams, or REPORTS, Act);
  • H.R. 921, the Sports Medicine Licensure Clarity Act; and,
  • H.R. 3299, the Strengthening Public Health Emergency Response Act

Watch Congressman Gus Bilirakis's opening statement here:

"These bills build on our efforts to modernize our government for the 21st century," said Congressman Bilirakis. "I am proud my FTC REPORTS Act was included in the legislation advanced today. I heard from many of my constituents, and with their help, this bill will better protect our seniors, and all consumers, from fraud. We will continue working towards a more transparent and accountable administration, and continue working to protect individuals and communities across the nation."
