House Passes Bilirakis Legislation to Ensure Preparedness Activities in Times of Disaster

February 2, 2015

Washington, D.C. – Representative Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) today released the following statement upon passage of his bill, H.R. 361, the Medical Preparedness Allowable Use Act. H.R. 361 allows existing grant funds - without authorizing new funding - to be used to enhance medical preparedness and purchase medical countermeasures.

"Experts have repeatedly noted that the threat of a WMD attack is real," said Bilirakis. "We must take steps now, so the necessary plans, medication and equipment are available to protect the public – especially emergency response providers – in the event of an attack or emergency. Today, the House acted to recognize the continued importance of ensuring medical preparedness, and make certain it remains a priority. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to get this bill signed into law."

This legislation was passed by a vote of 377 to 2. To view Representative Bilirakis' full remarks, click here.
