House VA Committee Names Bilirakis as Vice Chairman
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House Veterans’ Affairs Committee announced today that U.S. Representative Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) will continue to serve as Vice Chairman. The committee provides key oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs, including VA health care and benefits programs.
“I’m honored to again have the chance to serve as Vice Chairman of the House VA Committee. With over 70,000 Veterans in my district, and two major VA hospitals, I am committed to standing up for the men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to improve care for Veterans, and bring much-needed accountability and reform to the VA.”
Bilirakis has served as Vice Chairman of the committee since 2011. In the 114th Congress, two of his bills to promote better access to mental health services at the VA—The COVER Act and the PROMISE Act—were signed into law. He also worked closely with the committee on legislation to make it easier to fire VA employees for poor performance, the VA Accountability First and Appeals Modernization Act.
If a Veteran from Florida’s 12th District is having trouble dealing with the VA, they can call Bilirakis’ office at 727-232-2921.
