"I was saddened to learn of Chairman Bitner's passing today as this is a tremendous loss for all of Florida. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his friends and family members, especially his wife Wendy, and I wish them the best during this difficult time.

The workshop was meant to foster a better understanding of the federal budget process, and allowed attendees to select which policies they would like to implement to reduce our deficits and improve our long-term fiscal outlook and economic future.

"These are historically tough economic times for Floridians," Bilirakis said. "I have said for years that there is nothing worse for creating jobs and growing an economy than burdensome regulations and over-taxation."

"Once again the House has passed a responsible solution that significantly reduces spending in the short term, caps spending in coming years and moves us toward a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution - all without raising taxes. Most importantly, it ensures more than a dollar in spending cuts for every dollar increase in the debt ceiling.
