Washington, D.C. - Yesterday, Congress passed H.R. 1538, the Wounded Warriors Assistance Act, which addresses the unacceptable conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Facility. H.R. 1538 will improve the management of medical care, personnel actions and quality of life issues for the military service members. The bill passed unanimously 426-0.

Washington, D.C. - Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-Palm Harbor), a Member of the Homeland Security Committee, lauded the bi-partisan passage of H.R. 1401, the Rail and Public Transportation Security Act, which included two security provisions he authored. The legislation passed 299 to 124.

Congressman will spearhead Policy Committee efforts on veterans' issues

Washington, D.C. -Rep. Gus M. Bilirakis (R-Palm Harbor) has been named Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee Veterans' Affairs Task Force. In this position, Bilirakis will spearhead the Policy Committee's efforts to address veterans' issues. He will have the authority to conduct hearings and arrange for speakers to educate him and his colleagues on veterans' issues.

The hallmark of any democracy is an educated citizenry that is capable of engaging in a dialogue with itself and with the government. Additionally, in today's global economy, the need for America's youth to receive a college education has never been greater. Education of our young men and women is necessary to ensure that America remains a world leader. Unfortunately, many young Americans must forgo this opportunity because of economic hardships.

Legislation would add additional medical conditions that are eligible for disability compensation

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-Palm Harbor) proudly announces the introduction of H.R. 1197, the Prisoners of War (POW) Benefits Act.
H.R. 1197 establishes presumptions for disability compensation for several diseases, including Type II Diabetes and Osteoporosis. This will allow former POWs to claim these disabilities as service-connected and qualify them for disability compensation.

The contract will exercise an option for 10 Harpoon Tactical Block II Grade B All-Up-Round (AUR) missiles and 10 MK631 Canister AUR Containers.
