Among the first to respond were Greece and Cyprus. U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis announced today that Nikhil Dutt, a senior at Land O’Lakes High School, has won the Congressional App Challenge for Florida’s 12th District. Nikhil’s winning app, entitled “Student Toolbox,” is a software program that helps students organize their schoolwork and connect with teachers and peers.

We need to give people fighting rare diseases a voice. That is why I introduced a provision to 21st Century Cures called the OPEN Act, an initiative to help leverage the free market and promote repurposing major market drugs for rare diseases. The OPEN Act has the potential to result in hundreds of new drugs and treatments for individuals with rare diseases, as well as a new surge in biotechnology jobs and investments.

Today, U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) supported legislation in the U.S. House to extend sanctions on Iran’s energy industry and illicit weapons programs. The Iran Sanctions Extension Act (H.R. 6297) passed the House by a vote of 419-1.
