"For more than two centuries, millions of men and women have honorably served this nation through the U.S. Army. "It is time that the Theological School at Halki is immediately reopened with no preconditions," Bilirakis said. "What the Orthodox Christian community and all religious freedom watchdogs throughout the world are asking for is simply that Turkey abides by its constitution, which secures religious rights for all of its citizens and institutions."
On Tuesday, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released its annual long-term budget outlook, again confirming that unless Washington makes significant fiscal reforms, American families face a bleak fiscal and economic future.
"At the start of another hurricane season and with the knowledge that the threat of terrorism against the United States has not decreased, it is important that we assess our nation's state of preparedness," Bilirakis said. "This hearing examined our current level of preparedness and provided the opportunity to consider steps that must be taken to address any areas of concern."
We once again find ourselves at the start of the Atlantic Hurricane season. Last year, Americans spanning the eastern seaboard experienced the impacts of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Many communities in the northeast are still working to recover from those storms.
"We all have a role to play in preparedness. Put together an emergency kit, develop a family plan, and encourage others to prepare. Taking those steps now can make a huge difference should disaster strike," Bilirakis said. "While NOAA predicts a 'near normal' hurricane season, there have already been two named storms before the season has even started."
