H.R. 1570 provides businesses with a tax credit of up to $2,000 per year for each employee who is absent from work for the purpose of performing qualified active duty services.
"If families across Florida have to tighten their belts, Washington must do the same. Ignoring runaway deficits and out-of-control spending is not an option," Bilirakis said.
The hearing, titled "Taking Measure of Countermeasures: A review of government and industry efforts to protect the homeland through accelerated research, development, and acquisition of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear medical countermeasures," is the first in a two-part series of hearings to examine the nation's preparedness as it relates to medical responses.
"The event will act as a one-stop shop for students and parents to learn more about financial aid resources, the college admissions process, and speak with school representatives face-to-face," Bilirakis said.
"We can never be too prepared for potential emergency situations, and this program helps local and state governments ensure that our citizens are safe," said Bilirakis, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response and Communications.
"It is our duty to ensure that our troops and their families receive a paycheck on time and have the resources they need," Bilirakis said. "These brave men and women should be our top priority, as they have made protecting our country their top priority."
"It's extremely troubling that the U.S. government would grant a visa to the son of such a despicable individual," said Bilirakis, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response and Communications and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee. "This raises very legitimate concerns about the security of our visa program."
"Florida's unemployment rate remains one of the highest in the country, so we must do all we can to connect those who are out of work with employers," Bilirakis said. "This career fair will serve as an excellent opportunity for those in search of jobs to meet with potential employers in the area."

On Feb. 23, the FBI arrested Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari, a 20-year-old Saudi national studying in the United States on a student visa, for plotting terrorist attacks against soldiers, critical infrastructure and former President George W. Bush.
"Many foreign students come here with noble intentions, and while not all terrorists have come to the U.S. under the guise of a student visa, many do," said Bilirakis, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee. "Terrorists have found a loop hole in our nation's security, and we must close that loop hole."
