Washington, DC (December 17, 2010) – Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-09) issued the following statement after voting against continued spending and stimulus measures:

"While we can't increase taxes during difficult economic times, the American people want us to cut spending and stop adding to our deficit," Bilirakis said. "It's vital that we create tax certainty and stability, but I could not support this so-called compromise because it will continue to cripple our nation's fiscal position."

Washington, DC (December 13, 2010) – Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-09) today issued the following statement in support of the ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Henry Hudson that declared the Democrats' health care law unconstitutional because it mandates that every American buy health insurance or pay a fine.

"Today's ruling reaffirms what the American people have been saying from day one: Obamacare is a job-killing takeover of our health care system that unconstitutionally forces people to buy health insurance," Bilirakis said.

WASHINGTON, DC (October 7, 2010) – Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-09) was recognized today with an "A in English" award by U.S. English, Inc. for his dedication to preserving the unifying role of the English language in the U.S.

Members received "A in English" honors based on their votes for several key issues, such as the English Language Unity Act, which declares English as the official language of the U.S. and establishes a uniform English language rule for naturalization.

WASHINGTON, DC (September 28, 2010) – Around 500 churches, monasteries, cemeteries and other religious sites in the Republic of Cyprus have been desecrated, pillaged, looted and destroyed since Turkey invaded the northern region on July 20th 1974.

"Congress has shown it is making international religious freedom a priority," said Bilirakis, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the International Religious Freedom Caucus.
