Frank McKenzie, former Commander of U.S. Central Command at MacDill AFB. Bilirakis has long-championed the need to modernize our nation's critical infrastructure including: communications, energy, financial, water and transportation (ports, roads and rail) to better protect against cyberwarfare.

The lawmaker, who is working on legislation to hold Big Tech accountable for improving safety of youth on its social platforms, solicited input about the teens' experiences with cyberbullying, social media, and the impact that use has had on their mental health and the mental health of their peers.

This week, Congressman Gus Bilirakis met with a group of local manufacturers to discuss supply chain problems they've encountered, raging inflation, and their concerns about the new law which is expected to raise taxes on small businesses. Democrats used reconciliation, a special legislative process, to jam the package through on a purely partisan basis. The bill proposed nearly $570 billion in new taxes, while increasing spending and tax subsidies by roughly $580 billion over the next decade.

During the visit, the lawmaker got a first-hand view of the unique challenges law enforcement officers face as they work to ensure public safety. One of the main topics of discussion was the rise in overdose deaths happening throughout the state of Florida and within Pasco County. Since 2019, Pasco County has seen a 71% increase in the number of confirmed overdose deaths.
