In May, Bilirakis introduced H.R. 2001, which would prevent the payment of unemployment compensation to individuals fired for drug or alcohol use.
"Homeownership is one of the cornerstones of the American dream, and given the current downturn in the housing market, many families are insecure about their most important investment," Bilirakis said. "To help homeowners, I am bringing together leaders in home finance to aid families and individuals in navigating these uncertain times."
"For too long, unelected Washington bureaucrats have imposed huge costs on the economy and the American people through burdensome regulations," Bilirakis said. "This must stop in order to help spur economic growth in the Tampa Bay area and around the country. The REINS Act will help ensure that there is a thoughtful review of new government regulations which could impede our economy."
"Congress should not be exempt from rules that apply to the rest of the public, and there should be no question about the motives of those elected to lead the government," Bilirakis said. "Washington must become more open, honest and transparent, and the STOCK Act is an important step in that direction."

"At a time when so many people in our community are in need of employment, it's imperative that they are put in touch with those businesses and employers that are hiring and these fairs provide that opportunity," Bilirakis said.
"Since this debate began, I have said that the mandates are unconstitutional, and I welcome the news that the Supreme Court will address this issue. The federal health care overhaul has saddled our economy with uncertainty and additional costs at a time when it is struggling to recover.
