Gus Bilirakis (FL-09) is calling on the House Appropriations Committee to place conditions on the $1.3 billion in annual aid the United States provides Egypt because it is being used by the Egyptian military to persecute and attack Coptic Christians and other religious minorities. Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-09), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, was one of the first congressmen to call for Holder's resignation, and continues to do so, especially after Holder himself called the program "inexcusable" and "wholly unacceptable."

"Whether he knew about this program or not, the American people have lost all confidence and trust in Attorney General Holder and his ability to lead our Justice Department," Bilirakis said.

In May, Bilirakis introduced H.R. 2001, which would prevent the payment of unemployment compensation to individuals fired for drug or alcohol use. South Carolina expects to save nearly $30 million a year because it recently began denying benefits to people who had been fired for gross misconduct such as drug and alcohol use.

Services will include information tables, services lenders, and housing, financial and credit counseling.

Bilirakis addressed these concerns at a Veterans Affairs Committee hearing on Wednesday that examined the certification process, which has received criticism for being inefficient and burdensome.

"I'm concerned that the VA is not processing and certifying these veteran-owned businesses adequately. Delays in the certification process are inhibiting these companies and harming much-needed job creation," said Bilirakis, who has reached out to the VA to expedite the process on behalf of local companies.

"At a time when so many people in our community are in need of employment, it's imperative that they are put in touch with those businesses and employers that are hiring and these fairs provide that opportunity," Bilirakis said.

Nearly two dozen local businesses and employers will be on hand to meet with those seeking careers. Attendees are encouraged to dress professionally, bring resumes and be prepared for potential interviews.
