As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications, Bilirakis oversees FEMA and ensures that it is efficient and effective in the use of its funds.

In a surprise ceremony on Wednesday, Gus presented Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee with a Congressional commendation for providing honor escorts to soldiers who have been killed in action.

The Halki seminary had been the premier location for training Eastern Orthodox clergy for nearly 150 years. However, Turkish authorities forcibly shut down the seminary in 1971. The resolution simply requires that Turkey allow its citizens and institutions to be free of harassment based on religion.
Gus encouraged the Senate and President Obama to act on the Keystone Pipeline project, which will create tens of thousands of American jobs and reduce America's dependency on oil from overseas.
