The House Veterans' Affairs Committee today continued efforts to address issues at the VA. The committee held a hearing entitled "1988 to 2016: VETSNET to VBMS; Billions Spent, Backlog Grinds On" to further address the significant backlog issues our nation's Veterans are facing at the VA.
Representative Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) released the following statement following the President's veto of the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act:
This week, the VA OIG released a report titled: "Review of Alleged Problems with Veterans Benefits Management Systems and Claims Processing," which details significant backlogs at the St. Petersburg VA Office. Thousands of Veterans' requests are still pending review, leaving Veterans waiting over 100 days for a response. "This new report is cause for grave concern," said Congressman Gus Bilirakis. "It is clear, despite our best efforts, the VA's flaws persist.
The U.S. House of Representatives today advanced H.R. 3762, the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act to protect patients, families, taxpayers, health care providers, and communities across the nation.
Helping our nation's Veterans has always been a top priority of mine. This year will be no different. I am currently working to help our local Veterans receive the quality care, benefits, and services they deserve.

On Thursday, the House advanced H.R. 2029, the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act. This legislation makes permanent over 20 tax relief provisions and extends a number of other tax relief provisions that expired in 2014.
"This legislation delivers certainty to taxpayers in my district and across the country," said Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL). "This bill prevents tax increases which would have been harmful to our economy and will help strengthen the integrity of tax credit programs to prevent fraud and abuse. This bill is a win for taxpayers."

This week, the House Veterans' Affairs Committee continued work to help our nation's Veterans and hold the VA accountable.
On Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Health held a hearing to review legislation to improve the Veterans' Benefits Programs, increase transparency at the VA, and support Veterans and their families.
"These important bills will help us to address the shortcomings in the VA and hold this agency accountable," said Vice Chair Gus Bilirakis (R-FL). "It is our duty to ensure our Veterans receive the care and support they deserve."
