After learning of abuses by groups charging veterans money to file claims for benefits they may never receive, Bilirakis and Walz have introduced HR 1826, bipartisan legislation that would make it a misdemeanor to illegally charge veterans for filing a disability claim.

Because of ambiguities in current law, TBI treatment at the Department of Veterans Affairs narrowly focuses TBI care on physical restoration. The Veterans' Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitative Services' Improvements Act of 2011 would clarify the definition of rehabilitation so veterans will receive care that adequately addresses their physical and mental health needs, as well as quality of life and prospects for long-term recovery and success.

Earlier this week, Gus signed on as an original co-sponsor to the Secure Visas Act, a bill introduced by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) that will enhance the way we protect our nation and secure our borders.

This bill would maintain and increase Visa Security Units in ?highest-risk? countries and would end judicial review for revocation of terrorists? visas.

While many people use the visa program for legitimate reasons, it has often been used as a way for terrorists to enter the U.S. with the intent to cause harm.

Nearly 25 World War II veterans from the Tampa Bay area were able to fly to Washington, DC, on May 3, 2011 to spend time at the World War II Memorial. The trip was arranged by the Honor Flight Network, a non-profit program founded five years ago to bring WWII veterans to visit the nation's capital. The WWII Memorial was completed in 2004, so many veterans have not had the opportunity to visit their memorial.

Gus greeted the veterans as they arrived at the memorial, and thanked them for their heroic service to our country.

On April 27, Gus held his annual Career Fair, where more than 60 employers met with more than 400 job-seekers.

"Florida's unemployment rate remains one of the highest in the country, so we must do all we can to connect those who are out of work with local employers," Gus said. "We hold these Career Fairs because they serve as an excellent opportunity for those in search of jobs to meet with potential employers in the area."

On April 26, Gus visited a Tampa-area gas station to hold an impromptu townhall with customers about the impact of rising gas prices. He visited with dozens of people to hear their concerns, and even pumped some gas. Watch some of the footage from his visit below:
